چکیده

We consider a scenario in which anonymous, finite-state sensing devices are deployed in an ad-hoc communication network of arbitrary size and unknown topology, and explore what properties of the network graph can be stably computed by the devices. We show that they can detect whether the network has degree bounded by a constant d, and, if so, organize a computation that achieves asymptotically optimal linear memory use. We define a model of stabilizing inputs to such devices and show that a large class of predicates of the multiset of final input values are stably computable in any weakly-connected network. We also show that nondeterminism in the transition function does not increase the class of stably computable

Stably Decidable Graph Languages by Mediated Population Protocols

We work on an extension of the Population Protocol model of Angluin et al. that allows edges of the communication graph, G, to have states that belong to a constant size set. In this extension, the so called Mediated Population Protocol model (MPP), both uniformity and anonymity are preserved. We study here a simplified version of MPP in order to capture MPP’s ability to stably compute graph pr...

Mediated Population Protocols

We extend here the Population Protocol model of Angluin et al. [2] in order to model more powerful networks of very small resourcelimited artefacts (agents) that are possibly mobile. The main feature of our extended model is to allow edges of the communication graph, G, to have states that belong to a constant size set. We also allow edges to have readable only costs, whose values also belong t...

All Symmetric Predicates in NSPACE(n2) Are Stably Computable by the Mediated Population Protocol Model

This work focuses on the computational power of the Mediated Population Protocol model on complete communication graphs and initially identical edges (SMPP). In particular, we investigate the class MPS of all predicates that are stably computable by the SMPP model. It is already known that MPS is in the symmetric subclass of NSPACE(n). Here we prove that this inclusion holds with equality, thus...

A Computable Functor from Graphs to Fields

We construct a fully faithful functor from the category of graphs to the category of fields. Using this functor, we resolve a longstanding open problem in computable model theory, by showing that for every nontrivial countable structure S, there exists a countable field F with the same essential computable-model-theoretic properties as S. Along the way, we develop a new “computable category the...

Computing Planarity in Computable Planar Graphs

We use methods from computability theory to answer questions about infinite planar graphs. A graph is computable if there is an algorithm which decides whether given vertices are adjacent. Having a procedure for deciding the edge set might not help compute other properties or features of the graph, however. The goal of this paper is to investigate the extent to which features related to the pla...
